The author assumes you have, at least, a basic knowledge on stompbox building - if that doesn't apply to you, then please go back to the main page an read some of the articles on the topic.

Generally speaking, most of those effects are not a good choice as a first or second project (with the exception of the Big Cheese and Brown Source, which would be a great second build).
They are much more complex than the average stompbox: ther are lots of potentiometers and switches to wire, delicate components, big and densely populated boards, etc. In order to have a working pedal, the builder should ideally be able to solder proficiently just about anything, and make a clean, tidy and organized wiring and enclosure layout. Else, the chances of failure are quite high (components mounted the wrong way, cold solders, bridged paths or wrong wiring, to name a few).
